“How much design potential lies behind the silhouette technique? Where can graphics be created when scissors and paper intersect? The Style–Paper–Scissors exhibition shows how today’s students at the Lette Verein Berlin have responded in their designs to historical silhouette cutouts by Johanna Beckmann (1868–1941) preserved in the Kunstbibliothek’s (Art Library) museum collection. The works showcase a wide range of graphic media and techniques, including silkscreen posters, cyanotypes, typography, illustrational and digital works, as well as book and moving image projects – all produced within the graphic design study programme. The Graphic Design Department at the Lette Verein was founded 150 years ago – one of the few schools at the time where women could train to pursue a career in the arts. …”
