Filip Markiewicz – Ultrasocial Pop

Friday, 8. April — Sunday, 12. June 2022
Filip Markiewicz - Ultrasocial Pop, Berlin

The exhibition „Ultrasocial Pop“ by Filip Markiewicz at Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) is part of a larger, widely ramified project of the same name that is taking place in different places and at different times. The poetological center of the project is the album Ultrasocial Pop by Raftside, Filip Markiewicz’s musical alter ego, which was released in September 2021 by the Berlin label Grzegorzki Records. The project and exhibition title is based on a deconstruction of the terms „ultra“, „social“ and „pop“, as Markiewicz explains in a statement: „While the word ’social‘ has a special meaning in art history, as a direct reference to the politically intended concept of social sculpture by Joseph Beuys, in my eyes ‚pop‘ primarily refers to the uninhibited growth of the ‚consumer society‘ (Jean Baudrillard ) since the 1950s. Putting these two words together results in a new definition of the word ‚pop‘. …”
