The Babylon is a cinema and in Mitte. It is part of a listed building complex on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. The building was built in 1928/29 according to plans by architect Hans Poelzig and as an exemplary work of the New Objectivity. In 1948, the building was rebuilt and served as a special-interest cinema in the GDR. In 1993 the hall had to be closed due to danger of collapse. Between 1999 and 2001, the hall was renovated and reconstructed in accordance with the preservation order. In 2002, the Babylon and the work were awarded the German Prize for Monument Protection.
