The Taubenstraße, located in Berlin’s Mitte district, is a fairly short street that may seem somewhat unremarkable at first glance. At approximately 600 meters long (390 m west of the Gendarmenmarkt and 230 m east of it), the street is quickly traversed.
The highlight of Taubenstraße is probably the Gendarmenmarkt, which it crosses, featuring the French Cathedral, the Berlin Cathedral, and the Konzerthaus.
At its eastern end, Taubenstraße meets Hausvogteiplatz. The Embassy of the Republic of Peru is also located on this side—hence the Peruvian flag hanging quite prominently above the street.
On the western side, Taubenstraße crosses Friedrichstraße and eventually leads onto Mauerstraße.
Taubenstraße may not be a street worth seeing in and of itself, but it connects various places of interest: from Hausvogteiplatz, you can walk along Markgrafenstraße and Gendarmenmarkt to Friedrichstraße and on to Mauerstraße. Or the other way around. And sometimes it’s the small side streets that have a hidden charm—and in that sense, perhaps even greater charm—than the well-known boulevards.
